We often see the advice 'be authentic'. I always thought it odd advice - what else could you be?
Then I started realising that often people feel they need to speak with their 'corporate' voice online. They are nervous to be themselves. They are worried what the Comms team or the Brand team might think.
The good news is that research backs up what I thought was obvious - be yourself. Research by LinkedIn and Edelman back in 2017 concluded that to maximise influence online it really helps if content comes from someone the recipient knows. Check out Five things that make content influential - and how to get all five.
Content is far more powerful if it is created by someone the recipient knows and it would be strange (and have less of an impact) if they did not write in their voice.
Therefore it makes sense to listen to Dr Seuss: 'Be you - after all, there is no one alive who is youer than you' :)
Today you are YOU, that is TRUER than true. There is NO ONE alive who is YOUER than YOU!
